Press Wednesday: Trial & Error

THE OLY-spec dumbbell handles I ordered arrived today, so I took one to the gym to construct my monster dumbbell… it didn’t go as planned. The 10 kilo plates I assessed by eye to be the right diameter were just a little too big… and the 5s were too thick to load enough of them to make it challenging. Since I skipped some accessory pulls on Monday night I thought I’d test it out with some Kroc rows too.

After speaking with Asha, who needs to learn the 1-arm clean and press with a competition-spec also, but who as yet cannot heft a ready-made monster dumbbell (like the kind our friends make over east). I am now on the lookout for some plates that will do the trick; they have to be pretty much the same size and thickness as the Ivanko 5 kilo plates I recall using at PTC – definitely no bigger in thickness or diameter than those. If I can get a few pairs of the just the right plate, we will be sorted for a good while… my 1-arm press should crack 70 kilos this year. Maybe even 75.
