Pull Monday: Down with the Sickness

WITH the winter weather inevitably comes sickness. It seems to hit me each year like it’s scheduled. For the last couple of days it’s been swimming around in my head, costing me sleep. I loaded up on codral, strepsils, and garlic and horseradish throughout the day, and by training time I was feeling a little clearer. I hate missing training sessions – especially deads. And I should mention here that all my deadlifts in this cycle have been without a belt, and they will continue to be beltless until I advise otherwise.

Gabor encouraged me to troll with the seated rows machine, so I loaded it to max and did a few reps with one arm. The machines in the mirror room really are just toys… even the leg press requires virtually all the 20 kilo plates in its vicinity in order to challenge me. But then, I didn’t move my training to Genesis so I can preen and pose in front of mirrors; a standard bar will still hold enough plates to challenge me in the deadlift, and with my axle and monster dumbbell handle (and Les’ yoke, which I’m told will arrive in the next week), there’s still plenty of room to grow stronger in the ‘high performance zone.’
